‘THE CONJURING’

HOUSE LISTED FOR $1.2 MILLION

- By Nicole Funaro

The home dubbed “one of the most well-known haunted houses in the United States” has been listed for sale just as the season for horror movies kicks off.

According to Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty, the farmhouse on 1677 Round Top Road in Burrillville, R.I. — also known as the home that inspired the horror movie franchise, “The Conjuring” — has been listed for $1.2 million. The home is said to be haunted by the presence of Bathsheba Sherman, a resident of the home in 1800s, according to Mott & Chace Sotheby’s.

“The Conjuring” was based on the incidents reported by former tenants of the home, and according to Mott & Chace Sotheby’s, “many qualified paranormal researchers have been invited into the home — most famously Ed and Lorraine Warren, who founded the oldest ghost hunting team in New England.” The Connecticut-based Warrens were hired to eradicate the home’s spirits in the 1970s and confirmed the incidents shown in the film.

The latest installment of “The Conjuring” was released in June and follows the Warrens to Brookfield for the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, a 19 year old convicted with first-degree manslaughter of his landlord. The teen claimed he was possessed by the devil at the time of the murder.

Now up for sale (rumored spirits and all), the listing notes that the home contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms over 3,109 square feet. The 14-room farmhouse was built in 1836 sits on 8.5 acres of land in Providence County. The home’s current caretakers have been using the property to host overnight guests and group bookings.

One thing potential buyers should note: the current owners still “have reported countless happenings in the house.”
