Sacred Heart runs past CCSU

FAIRFIELD — Malik Grant ran ran for 183 yards on 29 carries and reached the end zone three times to lead Sacred Heart past Central Connecticu­t 27-17 on Saturday.

Grant’s 4-yard touchdown run with 3:24 left in the third quarter gave the Pioneers (4-3, 2-1 Northeast Conference) a 13-10 lead.

Early in the fourth, Grant scored from 15 yards out running up the middle and breaking tackles near the goal line to extend the margin.

Marquez McCray threw for 178 yards for Sacred Heart now winners of back-to-back contests following a two-game skid.

Nasir Smith ran for 89 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown for the Blue Devils (1-5, 1-1).

Framingham State 35, WCSU 21: At Framingham, Mass., Devaun Ford had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown as the Rams handed WestConn its second straight loss.

Mack Driver scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for WCSU (3-4), while Jillian Ferguson added a receiving touchdown from 23 yards out. Framingham State improved to 5-2.

New Haven 30, AIC 14: At Springfiel­d, Mass., Dev Holmes finished with 142 yards receiving on six catches and scored a touchdown as the Chargers remained unbeaten in NE-10 play.

Shamar Logan added 106 yards rushing with a touchdown for UNH (5-1, 4-0 NE-10), while quarterbac­k Connor Degenhardt was 19 for 30 passing for 315 yards.

Prince Olubakinda had a pair of touchdown passes for AIC (3-4, 1-4).

Bentley 34, SCSU 20: At New Haven, Stephen Sturm threw for four touchdowns, including two to Abel Lopes Jr. as the Falcons picked up the NE-10 win.

For SCSU (3-3, 2-2 NE-10), quarterbac­k Marc Reali had a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown.

Bentley improved to 7-0 (5-0 NE-10). Catholic 30, Coast Guard 7: At Washington, D.C., Madden Lowe threw a pair of touchdowns and ran for another leading Catholic to its New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference win.

Catholic improved to 5-2 (3-0 NEWMAC), while the Bears dropped to 2-5 (0-3).

Spencer McMillion scored Coast Guard’s touchdown on a 2-yard run with 3:35 left in the fourth quarter.

Trinity 45, Bates 7: At Hartford, Spencer Fetter completed 20-of-25 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 21 yards to lead Trinity to a New England Small College Athletic Conference win.

The Bantams improved to 5-0 both overall and in the conference.

William Kirby had 23 carries for 66 yards and three touchdowns for Trinity. Jonathan Girard had seven receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns and Devante Reid had six receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown.
