CHAMPIONSH­IP PEDIGREE

Greenwich leads with 21 titles, 15 since 2000. Cheshire, the 2019 champion, has won 14 times. New Canaan has won four times. Darien has three titles. Staples won the first State Open in 1976. Lauralton Hall (1989) is the only non-FCIAC champ.

21-YEAR RUN ON TITLES

Greenwich put together title runs in 2000-03, seven straight crowns from 2005-11, and then 2015-18. Cheshire won in 2003-04. Darien earned wins from 2012-14.

Greenwich is the Class LL champion. Glastonbur­y was runner-up. Darien was first in Class L with Cheshire second. Daniel Hand won Class M followed by North Haven. Weston is the Class S champion. Lauralton Hall was runner-up.

Multiple swimmers earned more than one individual title at the class meets.

Staples’ freshman Annam Olasewere

smashed state, class, and pool records in the 50- (22.67) and 100-yard freestyle (50.14) at the Class LL meet. Trumbull’s Lauren Walsh scored wins in the 200 individual medley and the 100-breaststro­ke.

Relays pitched in to dust off records in Class LL. Jessica Qi, Ella Alpert, Ayaan Olasewere and Annam Olesewere from Staples broke a 25-year state record with a time of 1:35.75 in the 200-freestyle relay. Glastonbur­y’s runner-up foursome of Avery Kudlac, Norell Paluska, Annika Paluska and Riley Kudlac swam a 1:35.90 to also eclipse the old mark.

Miller Ward from Class L champion Darien captured titles in the 200 IM and the 100-butterfly. Newtown’s Brianna Deierlein finished first in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Elise Richardson from Lyman Hall was Class M best in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. East Lyme’s Nicole Hahn was state champ in the 200 IM and the 100-breaststro­ke.

Class S champion Weston’s Alexandra Bradley won the 200 individual medley (2:08.77) and the 100 butterfly (57.21). Katrine O’Leary of Seymour was first in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

Alongside Annam Olasewere, top swimmers in the 100-freestyle are Class LL’s Riley Kudlac (Glastonbur­y), 51.07; and Jessica Qi (Staples), 52.75;, Class L, Avery Potyrala (Cheshire), 52.12; Alanna DePinto (Wethersfie­ld), 52.62; and Sabrina Schuster (Wethersfie­ld), 53.28; Class M’s Elise Richardson (Lyman Hall), 54.42; Loretta Cecchini (Old Lyme/Val/OS), 55.73; Carolyn Jandura (Bethel/Immaculate), 55.83; and Katrine O’Leary (Seymour) 52.51; Katherine Franco (Weston) 53.45; and Julianna Weir (East Catholic) 54.39 in Class S.

In the 50-freestyle, leaders coming in are Annam Olasewere, Riley Kudac (Glastonbur­y) 23.36; and Kathleen Murray (Ludlowe), 23.55 from Class LL; Class L’s Natalia Ferranto (Darien), 24.03; Alanna DePinto (Wethersfie­ld), 24.37; and Sabrina Schuster (Wethersfie­ld), 24.52; Class M’s Daniele Tanaka Sales (St. Joseph), 24.52; Joclyn Niemczyk (Rockville), 24.72; Eva Helmke (Masuk), 24.78; and Class S’ Katrine O’Leary (Seymour) 23.90; Julianna Weir (East Catholic) 24.44; and Katherine Franco (Weston) 24.56.
