Yale game with Lions postponed

Due to COVID-19 concerns and safety protocols within the Yale men’s basketball program, Sunday’s game against Columbia at the John J. Lee Amphitheat­er has been postponed. The game will be reschedule­d for a date and time to be determined.

Yale’s game with Howard set for Dec. 23 was canceled. The Bulldogs next scheduled game is Friday at Dartmouth. Yale is 6-8.

“The Ivy League continues to keep the safety of its student-athletes, staff and greater campus communitie­s at the forefront of its decision-making during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Yale said on its website.

FAIRFIELD-IONA DATE SET

Following the announceme­nt of the updated MAAC Basketball scheduling policy, the Fairfield men’s basketball program has reschedule­d its home game against Iona for Jan. 11. The game will tip off at 2 p.m. at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport.

All fans who previously purchased tickets for this game — including season ticket holders — will be contacted directly. All tickets purchased for the original Jan. 2 date will be honored.

Fairfield’s home game against Manhattan, which was previously set for Dec. 31, will be played on Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Sacred Heart 80, Bryant 61:

Guard Adrianne Hagood scored 22 points on 7-for-7 shooting and added two rebounds to the lead the Pioneers to their Northeast Conference win Friday in Fairfield. Sophomore guard Sonia Smith added 19 points, four rebounds and six assists for Sacred Heart, which improved to 4-4, 1-0 in NEC play. Sacred Heart made 14 3-pointers.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Quinnipiac 77, Niagara 68:

Sophomore guard Dezi Jones scored 20 points and added eight rebounds and five assists to lead Quinnipiac to its MAAC victory on Friday in Hamden. Kevin Marfo added 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists for the Bobcats, who improve to 7-4, 2-1 in MAAC play.

Jacob Rigoni contribute­d 14 points, connection on 4 of 7 3-point attempts. Rider is 5-7, 0-3 in the MAAC.
