Documentar­y on UConn hoops standout to premiere in Greenwich

Scene… Greenwich Historical Society is hosting the public premiere of the documentar­y film “Pushing Boundaries: UConn’s First NBA Player” on Feb. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. The film, based on the life and career of athlete and music executive Worthy Patterson, who died in 2022 at the age of 91, features interviews with Patterson and his family and focuses on his upbringing in Greenwich, his profession­al basketball career and his success as a recording industry executive with RCA Records and Warner Bros. Entertainm­ent. A Q&A with filmmaker Ronnie Forchheime­r, Queen Patterson, and Worthy Patterson III will follow the screening with members of the Patterson family joining via Zoom from California. Scene… The Greenwich Wine + Food’s “The Big Easy” event will take place on March 4 at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y. The New Orleans-style grand tasting event will offer signature Cajun and Creole dishes from area chefs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as well as Bourbon Street’s iconic drinks and premium wine, beer and spirits. Musical talent for the evening includes headliner Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Big Head Todd & the Monsters and Dumpstaphu­nk + Cyril Neville. Greenwich Wine + Food board member and longtime supporter Gary Dell’Abate, of “The Howard Stern Show” fame, will serve as one of the evening’s emcees, alongside Suni Unger, founder and CEO of Unger Media, the parent company behind Greenwich Wine + Food and Serendipit­y magazine. Out there… The Greenwich Library’s Flinn Gallery is featuring the opening night for the exhibit GLOW on Feb. 9. The exhibit curated by Ellen Hawley features the work of artists Ryan Crotty, Susan Meyer, Linda Kamille Schmidt and Audrey Stone. Their works include 2D and 3D themes of colors, transparen­cy, process, and light, creating works that glow and float in space. The exhibit runs through March 22. Out there… Abilis and Darien YMCA have announced the opening of The NEW Café at Darien YMCA. The café will offer coffee, tea, breakfast pastries, nutritiona­l bars, salads, sandwiches and snacks. Fairfield County-based items including Shearwater Coffee’s organic beans; salads, sandwiches and baked goods from Happiness Is Back Country Market; and Friends & Company Kitchen glutenand dairy-free baked goods. The café is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The café provides meaningful employment and an opportunit­y for individual­s with disabiliti­es to learn customer service and marketable skills, as well as develop selfconfid­ence to join the workforce.
