Pulitzer-winning author to visit Greenwich
Out there … Greenwich Library's AuthorsLive series is featuring Pulitzer Prizewinning author Jennifer Egan on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Berkley Theater. Egan will discuss her bestselling book “The Candy House” with Barbara Hoffert of Library Journal. The event is being offered in-person or by livestream. Out there … The Connecticut chapter of the Alzheimer's Association will beholding its 10th annual Celebrating Hope Gala on May 12 at Greenwich Country Club. Greenwich residents Brent and Courtney Montgomery are serving as cochairs of the event, “Alzheimer's Association Goes Hollywood: Celebrating 10 years of Passion, Progress and Purpose.” Brent Montgomery is the founder of The Village in Stamford and CEO of Wheelhouse, a media, marketing and investment venture in partnership with Jimmy Kimmel, which is anchored at The Village. Brent Montgomery lost his father to Alzheimer's disease. Courtney Montgomery, a Connecticut native, serves as CEO of Wheelhouse Properties, the developer of The Village. This annual gala helps the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut chapter educate and empower those with dementia and their caregivers, as well as fuel critical research towards new treatments and effective ways to manage this disease. Scene … The Greenwich Historical Society's upcoming exhibition, “Sports! More than Just a Game,” opens on March 8, featuring exclusive memorabilia, equipment and personal effects from celebrated sports figures and athletes and prominent athletes who live in Greenwich, who broke barriers, tested their limits and found common ground through athletics. Out there … The 47th annual Greenwich St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place March 19 at 2 p.m. starting at the Town Hall. This year's grand marshal is Greenwich native and former New York City police officer Kevin McFadden. McFadden is an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Among his many attributes, he is an active member of the Westchester County Football Officials Association and referees all levels of football from youth to high school. Out there ... The Cos Cob Association will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Cos Cob Firehouse. First Selectman Fred Camillo will be on hand to answer questions and door prizes will be available. All Cos Cob residents are welcome.
Love is in the air … Valentine's Day may be over but Greenwich natives and Riverside residents Sue and Ed Skalandunas, Greenwich High School class of '77, are celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary on Tuesday. I'm not going to reveal their secret message, but take a look Monday and Tuesday at the marquee on the Palace Theatre in Stamford. Happy anniversary!
