LAMPS PULLED FOR POTENTIAL FIRE RISK RECALL WATCH

- — Amanda Cuda

Ashley Furniture is recalling 900 floor lamps distributed in the United States because of potential fire hazards.

According to the company, an incorrect label on the lamp states that consumers can use 40 watt lightbulbs in the lamps. However, the socket is only designed to support 25 watt lightbulbs. Use of incorrect wattage lightbulbs can melt the power switch, posing a burn hazard.

Ashley Furniture has already received seven reports of the floor lamp’s power switch melting, with four of those incidents resulting in minor property dam- age. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled lamps have a floor switch and 12 lightbulb sockets. Model number L207971 is printed on a label on the underside of the lamp’s base. The lamps were sold at Ashley Furniture Home stores, independently owned and operated furniture stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com, Ashleyfurniture.com and other sites.

Consumers are urged to unplug the recalled floor lamps and contact Ashley Furniture to receive a full refund of the purchase price. Call Ashley Furniture at 800-477-2222, Ext. 129155, or visit www.ashleyfurniture.comand click on the “Consumer Notifications” link at the bottom of the page.

WALL ART POSES FALL HAZARD

Uttermost is recalling about 17,000 mirrors, art and wall décor because the hanging hardware can break and allow the pieces to fall, posing an injury hazard to bystanders. The company has received 13 reports of the hanging hardware breaking and causing mirrors and wall décor to fall, including one injury when a mirror fell and cut a customer’s leg.

The hardware associated with the recalled décor has item number 1703, 1704, 1705 or 1706 printed on the back bottom portion of the j-hook and on the hardware’s box. The recalled adjustable j-hooks measure about 3.5 inches long and 0.75 inches wide. For the complete list of items sold with the recalled adjustable j-hooks, visit: www.uttermost.com/images/recall.pdf.

The items were sold at retail stores nationwide and online from June 2017 through March 2018.

Consumers should immediately take the recalled decor off the wall and inspect the hanging hardware to check for the recalled metal adjustable jhooks. If the item has the recalled j-hooks, do not re-hang it; contact Uttermost to receive free replacement hooks. Call 800-678-5486, Ext. 4154, email owelch@uttermost.com or visit online at www.uttermost.com and click on “Recall Information.”
