Luxury car retailer rolling in to Stamford Town Center
STAMFORD — A showroom for Genesis cars is set to open within the next couple of weeks at Stamford Town Center, the mall’s management has confirmed.
The gallery would showcase Genesis’ G70, G80 and G90 sedan models, but not sell vehicles, according to the mall. Taking a space adjacent to the downtown shopping center’s main indoor plaza, it would succeed an Armani Exchange store that closed Jan. 27.
“Genesis has a new strategy for its 2019 vehicles to further distinguish the luxury brand in our market,” said Stamford Town Center General Manager Dan Stolzenbach. “Stamford Town Center is delighted to be part of this new direction.”
A message left for Genesis was not immediately returned.
One mile south of the mall, Genesis operates a dealership at 85 Magee Ave.
The showroom comprises one of several upcoming openings at Stamford Town Center. A children’s entertainment center and a candle store are also planning to debut soon, according to the mall.
Those new arrivals will help to counter the departure of Armani Exchange and other recent closings.
Last week, young-women’s clothing retailer Charlotte Russe announced it would close all of its stores — including its local outlet, which had operated since 2005.
The mall has faced sev- eral other bankruptcylinked closings in recent weeks. The Walking Co. closed Feb. 10, while Gymboree and Payless ShoeSource are holding liquidation sales.
Other chains have left the mall in the past two months.
Ann Taylor shuttered on Feb. 23 and a Cellairis cellphone repair-and-accessory store exited on Feb. 17.
Among its remaining stores, the mall has retained its three anchor tenants: Barnes & Noble, Macy’s and Saks Off 5th.
On Tresser Boulevard, the shopping center’s restaurant row is full, except for one vacancy. Its roster includes Plan B Burger Bar, Capital Grille, Cheesecake Factory, Kona Grill, Peter Chang Restaurant and Pieology.
