Estranged husband’s lawyers want off civil cases
Fotis Dulos is being dropped by his lawyers in two civil lawsuits.
Three separate teams of lawyers representing Dulos — in his divorce case with Jennifer Dulos, who went missing in late May, and a civil lawsuit from his mother-in-law — have filed petitions with the court asking to be removed from the proceedings in recent days.
Michael Rose, the Hartford attorney representing Fotis Dulos in his divorce case, filed papers to drop him as a client
late last week. Rose’s withdrawal — citing “good cause” — was followed by other lawyers seeking to remove Dulos as their client.
In addition to the divorce, Du
los is being sued by his motherin-law, Gloria Farber, over a loan made by her family trust to Dulos’ home-construction business. Two law firms representing Dulos in that matter have sought to drop his case.
Markowitz and Mawhinney, a firm in Bloomfield, filed papers
that it was looking to withdraw its representation of Dulos, citing the retirement age of one partner and a new focus on a different kind of law for another.
Another lawyer on the Farber lawsuit, John Clifford, filed a motion to withdraw on Monday. “Serious issues ... make it impossible
under our rules of professional conduct to continue,” wrote Clifford, based in Hartford. He added: “The attorney-client relationship has clearly broken down.”
Dulos is facing criminal charges in connection with the disappearance of his wife, tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution. He is due in Superior Court in Stamford on Tuesday on those charges.
In that appearance, Dulos will be represented by a nationally prominent defense attorney, Norm Pattis.
There will be hearings on the divorce case Tuesday afternoon.
