NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL COMING TO CLOONAN
Cloonan Middle School will have a new assistant principal next year.
Alexander Hanna has served as Cloonan’s administrative intern for the past four years and will become the school’s new assistant principal on July 1. Hanna replaces longtime Cloonan Assistant Principal Laureen Mody, who is retiring at the end of the year.
In his current capacity, Hanna supports building administrators with various projects, including test coordination, after-school intramural sports, and organization of an attendance task force in conjunction with the Juvenile Review Board and the Stamford Police Youth Bureau.
“I am impressed by Alex’s commitment to the Stamford Public Schools, both as an employee, and as a parent of school-aged children,” said Cloonan Principal David Tate.
“Cloonan was blessed to have a large pool of very qualified candidates from whom to choose. Alex Hanna certainly shared those qualities, but what truly made him stand out is his vision for rethinking education to meet the needs of students where they are and the ways in which 21st century young people learn,” Tate added.
Before becoming Cloonan’s administrative intern, Hanna worked in the district for eight years as a math teacher, math support specialist, and athletic coach at the middle and high school level.
Hanna holds a bachelor’s degree in business and technology from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in elementary education and certification in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University.
