Burglary suspects face child abuse charges
Two people charged with breaking into at least five houses in New Canaan are already facing felony child abuse charges in Milford.
New Canaan Police arrested Daniel Perez, 34, of Seymour Avenue, Derby, and Alessandra Sillo, 33, of Coram Avenue, Shelton, on Friday. Each was charged with five counts of thirddegree burglary and conspiracy to commit thirddegree burglary; two counts of sixthdegree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixthdegree larceny; one count of thirddegree larceny and one count of conspiracy to commit thirddegree larceny.
The charges stem from five breakins in New Canaan during August, and police said evidence found in serving a warrant in Shelton links the pair to other burglaries in the area. Video of a car leaving the scene of one of the burglaries was among the clues, police said.
Perez and Sillo, then both residents of Milford, were arrested May 10 after police there received numerous complaints about a YouTube video allegedly showing a child being abused.
The recording, police said, shows Perez threatening to throw a toddler out the window, and yelling at another child over spilling doughnuts. Perez provided differing explanations for what is in the video when he spoke to Hearst Connecticut Media in June.
Perez and Sillo then allegedly fled the state to avoid a visit from the Department of Children and Families.
Perez was charged by Milford Police with four counts of risk of injury to a minor and one count of threatening. He was freed after posting $10,000 and is next due in court Oct. 9.
Sillo was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a child. Freed on a promise to appear in court, she is also due in court Oct. 9.
In June, Perez told Hearst Connecticut Media that he wants his children back with an apology from the state.
Bond on the New Canaan burglary charges was initially set at $150,000 each, with arraignment scheduled for Monday.
