Dulos’ home for sale

- By Grace Duffield

NEW CANAAN — Jennifer Dulos was last seen six months ago returning to her home — which is now on the market with a new address — although the owner says he doesn’t believe she died there.

The 9,800squarefoot house situated on a quiet culdesac on Welles Lane has been listed with Douglas Elliman Real Estate for $2,995,000. The sixbedroom, ninebath home is available for purchase or rent.

“It is time to put it on the market and sell it,” said Arnold Karp, the builder and owner of the house. “Nobody is currently living there. It has all been cleared and ready for the next homeowner.”

It also has a new address — 71 Welles

Lane. The property, which was previously known as 69 Welles Lane, was purchased in 2005 for $1.6 million with the home built in 2016. Requests for address changes are often made to conceal that a crime once occurred on the property.

However, Karp said that’s not why he requested the address change. Karp said it was a “personal preference.”

A few weeks ago, Karp applied to the Department of Public Works and “it was pretty instant” that the number was changed, he said.

“I’ve changed numbers before,” Karp said. “It’s kind of a feng shui kind of thing. It has always bothered me. It bothered me when I bought it.”

Karp also doesn’t believe anyone would be “aware” of the original street number to connect it with the disappearance.

Jennifer Dulos was last seen on a neighbor’s security camera returning home on May 24.

Fotis Dulos and his former girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, have each pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution charges in the disappearance.

According to arrest warrants, police said they believe Fotis Dulos was “lying in wait” for his estranged wife to return from dropping off their five children at a nearby school around 8 a.m. that morning.

Police said they found evidence that Jennifer Du

los was the “victim of a serious physical assault” based on blood stains and spatter found in the garage, according to arrest warrants.

However, Karp said he does not believe the 51yearold mother died there.

“Anything that anybody says is conjecture,” Karp said. “We have spoken to law enforcement. Their need for the house has long passed.”

Defense attorney Norm Pattis, who is representing Fotis Dulos, said the circumstances of what happened inside the home remain unknown.

“We have no idea what happened to her. I doubt the seller does either, but he has a property to sell,” Pattis said.

According to arrest warrants, Jennifer Dulos was last seen on a neighbor’s security video around 8:05 a.m. Her Chevrolet Suburban was then captured on the video leaving her home around 10:25 a.m., arrest warrants state.

“(Fotis) Dulos is believed

to be operating the victim’s vehicle which is carrying the body of Jennifer Dulos and a number of other items associated with the cleanup which occurred in the garage of the residence,” the warrant said.

State’s Attorney Richard Colangelo said Fotis Dulos’ DNA was also found mixed with his wife’s blood on the faucet of her kitchen sink.

In the months since the disappearance, the Welles Lane home remained vacant with the lawn left not mowed during the summer.

Jennifer Dulos began renting the home in June 2017 when she filed for divorce and moved with her five children from Farmington.

The home was listed on Friday — two days before the sixmonth mark of the disappearance.

“Beautiful architectural detail throughout makes this home both comfortable and unique. Ideally located minutes from town, schools, trains, parks and more,” the listing reads on the Douglas Elliman website.
