KEEP AN EYE ON
‘Business trip’: Christyn Williams is looking forward to traveling home to Arkansas for Thanksgiving, especially because she didn’t really get to celebrate the holiday last year. She was in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where UConn was playing in the Paradise Jam.
Williams can’t leave just yet, though.
“We’ve got a business trip to finish first,” the sophomore said after a 73-62 win over Ohio State on Sunday.
O-No!: Olivia Nelson-Ododa, the defensive-minded, shotblocking force in the paint, does things that no other Husky can do, which is why her coach called her the team’s most indispensable player. But she’s now playing hurt after breaking her left pinky toe doing, well, who knows what.
Geno Auriemma was intentionally vague about the injury, saying it happened late this week away from the court. Apparently, it was innocuous enough that Nelson-Ododa didn’t immediately go for X-rays.
“People do goofy things,” Auriemma said.
There was some concern about whether Nelson-Ododa would be able to play Sunday, but she checked out fine in warmups. She wound up going 38 minutes, collecting six points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.
“(Saturday) in practice, we were kind of telling her, baby it just a little bit because we don’t know what’s going to happen, if you can further injure it or not,” point guard Crystal Dangerfield said.
