ONS to continue emergency office visits

- By Staff reports

GREENWICH — Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists is continuing to offer in-office appointments for patients who need emergency treatment and diagnoses, the local medical firm announced Tuesday.

To comply with social-distancing guidelines until the coronavirus pandemic abates, all patients with a sudden or acute injury must make an appointment to be treated at the ONS office at 6 Greenwich Office Park, which is open from noon to 4 p.m.

Mondays through Saturdays.

As an added precaution, all patients and individuals accompanying them to appointments will be temperature-screened upon arrival.

“Ensuring the safety of patients is of paramount importance,” Dr. James Cunningham said in a statement. “Prioritizing patients in need of emergency orthopedic treatment is one of the ways we are doing that. Telemedicine further reduces patients’ risk of exposure to the coronavirus while providing a continuity of care from a safe distance.”

Patients in need of emergency orthopedic care who

have cold or flu-like symptoms, have traveled in the past 14 days, are under a directed quarantine or who have a household member under quarantine must seek treatment at a hospital emergency room.

ONS is also continuing in-office appointments for individuals requiring therapeutic physical rehabilitation at the Greenwich location and at the Stamford office, at 5 High Ridge Park. Physical therapy is available from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

At the beginning of March, ONS implemented a number of measures aimed at helping to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus. Those changes included the temporary suspension of non-essential physician visits and elective

surgeries and the launch of a telemedicine service for patients who do not require an in-person visit.

ONS TeleHealth videoconferencing appointments allow patients and physicians to discuss matters such as X-ray and MRI test results and the progress of treatment plans. They also allow physicians to determine if patients need to schedule an immediate in-office visit for casting or diagnostic imaging tests.

Patients are asked to speak with an ONS representative by calling 203-8691145 to learn which appointment is appropriate for their condition. They can also visit onsmd.com to learn more about the temporary changes in policy, hours, locations and the new telemedicine service.
