Kasser failed to represent district

- Joshua Esses is a Stamford resident.

In January of last year, by a vote of 26 to 9, an overwhelming, bipartisan majority of Stamford’s Board of Representatives passed a resolution in opposition to implementing tolling in the state of Connecticut.

You’d expect our state legislators to take notice and represent our wishes accordingly. But not freshman state Sen. Alex Kasser. Not only did Kasser continue to support tolls (for which reasonable minds can disagree), but she impugned the intelligence of those in opposition, saying they were not “sophisticated.” Even worse, in a public statement on Feb. 26, 2019, she threatened to strip state transportation funding from municipalities — such as Stamford — that passed a nonbinding resolution in opposition to tolls.

Kasser is supposed to be a representative for the people of Stamford living in the 36th district. Instead, she not only has

failed to represent us, she has callously worked in opposition to the express wishes of the Stamford people.

Sen. Kasser ran in 2018 on a platform of moderation and bipartisanship. But once elected to office, it became clear she represents only her own ambitions and delusions of grandeur.

Her opponent, Ryan Fazio, is the bipartisan candidate in this race, and has deep ties to the Stamford community and 36th district, including having lived and worked in Stamford and attended Greenwich public schools. He is a steadfast opponent of tolls. Ryan understands that Hartford is always looking to put their hands in your pocket to fund bureaucracy at the state government, and that tolls would only feed the beast.

This November, Stamford residents should show Sen. Kasser just how sophisticated they are, by voting for Ryan Fazio to be our next state senator.
