Police: ‘Disgruntled employee’ pulls gun, causes scare

- By Pat Tomlinson

STAMFORD — A man characterized by police as a “disgruntled employee” caused a scare in downtown Stamford after he pulled a gun and tried to storm his former workplace on Monday morning, police said.

Officers are searching for the man after he showed up at the Summer Street offices of his former employer, PTM Marketing and Consulting, around 10 a.m. Monday, Lt. Tom Scanlon said.

The man was allegedly upset over a paycheck that he had yet to receive from the company as the result of a “clerical error,” police said. Things quickly grew heated, however, and the man was eventually escorted from the building by security, Scanlon said.

Though the man initially left the premises, he returned later, and the second time he was carrying a gun, Scanlon said. But, luckily for those working in the building, the quick thinking of a security guard on the scene may

have prevented a tragedy.

“He saw the employee returning with what appeared to be a gun in his pocket, and he was able to secure the door before he could gain entry,” Scanlon said.

Angered by the locked door, the man allegedly drew the firearm from his pocket and began to bang on the door, according to Scanlon. No shots were reported fired, he said.

Police arrived on the scene moments later and cleared the building, but Scanlon said by then the man had already fled the scene.

Scanlon said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

PTM Marketing and Consulting did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday afternoon.
