STAMFORD — The principal of Newfield Elementary School will move about three miles south next semester to take over the same position at Westover Magnet Elementary school.

Lisa Saba-Price, who has served as the Newfield principal for nine years, will take over for Kathy Wunder, who is retiring from her position as Westover principal at the end of the school year.

In her letter to families this Friday, Saba-Price called Newfield’s staff “stellar” and “the most experienced in the district.” She called her move to Westover “bittersweet.” “As most of you know I am a ‘Stamford’ girl and while my career has been in multiple schools in this district, Newfield has become my home,” she wrote. “However, it is because of my commitment to Stamford that I know it is the right time for me to provide support to another school in our district who is losing their

long-time leader due to retirement.”

Westover has battled repeated issues due to mold over the years, including a two-year period where students and staff were relocated to an office building on Elmcroft Road owned by Building and Land Technology while mold remediation was done.

Humidity remains an issue at the school and will be discussed next week during a subcommittee of the Board of Education.

Newfield has experienced its own challenges, SabaPrice wrote, including mold and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Those challenges have allowed me to continue to grow,” she wrote. “I thank each and every one of you for entrusting your precious children to me. And I know I can count on you to continue to support me.”

Superintendent Tamu Lucero called Saba-Price “one of our long-standing and truly respected principals.”

Saba-Price, a graduate of Westhill High School, has worked in Stamford schools for 33 years, 18 of which were in administrative positions. Previously, she worked at Stillmeadow Elementary School, Davenport Ridge Elementary School, and Northeast Elementary School. She lives in Stamford with her husband and her two college-age boys, both of whom graduated from Stamford High School.
