New Canaan High vaccine clinic open to Darien students
DARIEN — Local teenagers are welcome to sign up for a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination clinic to be held on Wednesday from noon to 5:30 p.m. at New Canaan High School.
The Pfizer vaccine is approved for ages 16 and up.
Those who sign up need to bring the paper VAMS forms and signed parental consent with them to their appointment with a student ID or driver’s license.
The effort is a partnership between Darien Health Department and New Canaan Health Department, according to an email from Darien Health Director David Knauf
New Canaan’s health department announced the clinic last week after it said it had received approval from the state’s Department of Health to hold the clinic for students.
There are 1,170 appointments available and the clinic will be held at the high school gymnasium.
Those who are vaccinated will receive their second dose appointment at the time, which is scheduled for
May 19 at New Canaan High School.
Darien has also organized a student vaccine clinic, a partnership between the town, the district and Stamford’s Community Health Center, which is open to those 16 and older.
Initially, signups for the Pfizer vaccine clinic on May 1 was only for eligible members of the Darien High School Class of 2021. Now, all students over 16 can be signed up for appointments.
Both the first and second dose clinics will be held at the Lord & Taylor vaccination site in Stamford. The first-dose clinic will take place May 1, from 1 to 4 p.m. and the second doses will be administered May 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. The appointment time for the first dose will be the same for the second dose.
Students who are 18 or older can register on their own, while those under 18 will need consent of a parent or guardian.
Some parents of teenagers have raised concerns about whether they would have their children vaccinated, particularly when it comes to potential longterm side effects.
Darien students returned to in-person learning Monday after classes were held remotely last week due to spring break travel plans.
