STAMFORD — Citing an uptick in COVID-19 cases and “growing concern for our community,” the organizers of Greenwich Wine + Food have opted to postpone the planned October anniversary celebration to spring 2022.

“In reviewing the goals and expectations of GWF events, coupled with the collaborative nature of our celebration, and new COVID restrictions, we are unable to deliver a safe, fun and secure event for our guests traveling from various towns and states to attend,” said Suni Unger, Greenwich Wine + Food CEO and founder, in a statement Monday.

The GWF organizers planned a “completely unique” celebration as the event marks its 10-year anniversary and faced a different landscape following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The main anniversary celebration was scheduled for Oct. 2 and 3 at The Village in Stamford, including a “savor & stroll” experience with food and beverage tastings, demonstrations and industry leaders sharing products on the boardwalk, as well as events devoted to the best in burgers, tacos and more. A 10th anniversary Master Chef Gala, honoring Jacques Pepin for his lifetime of achievement, was planned for Oct. 1.

Stamford Mayor David Martin last week reinstated the city’s mask mandate for all indoor events. The mandate also extends to outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people at city facilities or parks — which would not have applied to The Village’s boardwalk.

“A cornerstone of GWF is bringing our guests exclusive experiences with some of their favorite icons in the culinary and music industries,” Unger said. “As our fans and partners began to express uncertainty about how this culinary celebration would work with cases of the Delta variant on the rise, we realized they simply don’t. As a community event aiming to lift-up those in need, we will continue to explore ways we can continue to shine a light on our culinary partners and our co-beneficiaries’ missions while raising vital funds in the coming weeks and months.”
