Dylan named in sex abuse lawsuit

- By Nicholas Rondinone

A Greenwich woman has filed a lawsuit, alleging musician Bob Dylan sexually abused her in his New York apartment when she was 12 years old during a six-week period in 1965.

The woman accuses Dylan, whose real name is Robert Allen Zimmerman, of using his status as a musician to provide her with “alcohol and drugs and sexually abuse her multiple times,” the 13-page complaint filed last week in New York County Supreme Court reads.

In the lawsuit, the woman accuses Dylan of assault, battery, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The lawsuit contends that the victim, who was referred to in the lawsuit as J.C., suffered injuries, including severe emotional and psychological distress, anger and depression, some of which have been lasting.

The abuse allegedly occurred between April and May 1965, shortly after the victim turned 12 years old, in Dylan’s apartment in the Hotel Chelsea, according to the lawsuit.

“The complaint speaks for itself and we will prove our allegations in the court of law,” said attorney Daniel W. Isaacs, who is representing the woman.

The woman, a Greenwich resident now in her 60s, seeks a jury trial and unspecified damages from the 80-year-old songwriter and author. It was filed Friday in New York County Supreme Court as a “look back” window for civil claims typically outside the statute of limitations was set to expire under the New York Child Victims’ Act.

“This 56-year-old claim is untrue and will be vigorously defended,” a representative for Dylan told the New York Post.

New York Supreme Court records do not list an attorney for Dylan and he has yet to file a response to the complaint.
