Why I support Valentine for mayor
I first met Bobby Valentine when I was a junior at Stamford Catholic High. He came to help coach Mickey Lione Jr. teach us the fundamentals of baseball, and how to be competitive while respecting your opponent.
Bobby’s insight provided a strong foundation for addressing opportunities and challenges throughout my life. Bobby is a natural teacher and role model.
Like me, Bobby was born and raised in Stamford. He has been an effective leader in our community for as long as I remember. His record of achievement as an all-state athlete at Rippowam, as manager of championship teams in New York and Japan, and as a small business owner for 40 years is well-known.
But there are countless instances when Bobby helps people without recognition. Bobby is well-regarded as someone who says “yes” when asked. He has outstanding character, integrity, and a tireless work ethic that make him ideally suited to lead the City of Stamford.
Bobby has lived and worked in large cities around the world, but also appreciates the integrity and charm of our many diverse neighborhoods in Stamford.
As a registered and active Democrat in Stamford, I’ve supported the Democratic mayoral candidate since 1995. In doing so, I was voting for the person that most closely aligned with my views. Having served on the Board of Representatives, the Planning Board, and for 13 years on the Board of Finance, I have insight into what it takes to lead Stamford.
That’s why I will be supporting Bobby to be our next mayor in November. He is absolutely the most qualified for the job as a team builder, manager of complex organizations, and a visionary leader.
Bobby’s decision to serve Stamford unaffiliated from the party system is commendable, and has even inspired my sister, Marilyn Abbazia-Lodato, to run for Stamford town clerk. It is my belief that with Bobby in the lead, many qualified individuals will follow, and Stamford will be a great beneficiary!
