GameTimeCT high school sports coverage expanding

- By Dan Brechlin

GameTimeCT has been a lot of things over the last decade, or so.

It’s been the go-to source for all things high school sports across the state. It’s been articles and videos. Podcasts and graphics. There are scores and statistics, photos, tweets and Instagram posts, countless submitted highlights and analysis. GameTimeCT has brought insight, information, and personality.

Now, that coverage is about to get even better.

GameTimeCT will continue to be the go-to place for stories of the teams, athletes and coaches all over the state. We will cover the policy and rules changes, capture the game-winning moments and top plays and provide plenty of analysis along the way. That’s who we are.

Not only are we adding valued content, we are boosting the online user experience with CTInsider.com/gametimect. Meanwhile, all of the best local stories will continue to be found in your newspaper and its local website every day.

For those reading online, GameTimeCT will become another big addition to Hearst Connecticut Media Group’s new statewide website experience — everything you want to read about high school sports statewide. The site will have a mix of free and premium articles, which readers can subscribe to.

GameTimeCT is part of the HCMG umbrella. Also under that umbrella is a number of familiar titles: the Connecticut Post, New Haven Register, Danbury’s News-Times, Greenwich Time, Stamford Advocate, Norwalk Hour, The Middletown Press, The Register Citizen, and a number of other community publications. CTInsider.com was launched this year, capturing the best breaking news, investigations, data reporting, business coverage, food and fun, endless sports coverage on UConn and more across the state.

The GameTimeCT team couldn’t be more excited about the 2021-22 school year. After the challenges of the past year, we are looking forward to a fall sports season that hopefully brings some increased normalcy.

GameTimeCT has already begun launching more than 100 high school football team previews covering all corners of the state. Plans are being finalized for daily coverage, additional forms of digital storytelling, a high school football game of the week program, an athlete of the week feature, and all the other great GameTimeCT coverage you have come to expect.

We’ve added Jeff Jacobs, the premier sports col

umnist over the last 20-plus years in Connecticut, to the strong lineup to add his opinions, analysis, and storytelling on the local sports level. You can expect him not only writing multiple times per week, but also making weekly high school football picks and appearing on our podcast. He will join sports editor Sean Barker, assistant editor Sean Patrick Bowley, Pete Paguaga and the rest of the incredibly talented GameTimeCT team.

Going forward, you will see a mix of free stories and premium stories, the latter of which require a subscription. If you already subscribe to any of the Hearst Connecticut community papers, you’re already set — one subscription gets you access to all we have to offer.

Between now and the beginning of the high school sports seasons, we will have more to write about, record and capture. GameTimeCT will be at your scrimmages, we will let readers know who some of the best athletes and teams to watch in the upcoming season are and we will tell the stories that matter most to the high school sports community. And the best of those local stories – the ones that matter most to each publication – will be in your newspaper every day.

We also offer personalized GameTimeCT pages for each of our core websites. Subscribe to your local newspaper and only want local stories? You can find that on your publication’s website, or whichever of our websites you prefer.

The last bit of good news is that we are ever evolving and looking for your feedback. So if you have comments, you have a story to share or you just want to reach out, we encourage it.
