Thumbs down to a thumbs down

- Andrew Adamczyk Ansonia

To the editor,

I was disappointed to read one of your “Thumbs Down” items blaming victims of car theft because some of the cars were unlocked, and/or had keys in them.

While I agree that leaving your keys or any other valuables accessible in your car is unwise and makes you an easy target for opportunists, it does not excuse the person committing the crime. This is like blaming an assault or mugging victim for walking alone at night.

The instant the car thief touched the car’s door handle to see if was locked, he was up to no good.

Just because the temptation is there does mean that it is an invitation to steal.

Don’t blame the victim. If it’s not yours, don’t touch it. It’s as simple as that.
