Valentine ‘a champion for positive change’
To the editor,
The board of the Stamford Police Association, on behalf of the dedicated men and women of the department, has voted unanimously to endorse Bobby Valentine to be the next mayor of the city we collectively serve.
After evaluating the candidates, it is clear that Valentine’s experience and dedication to improving all aspects of Stamford put him above the others.
Stamford is now the second-largest city in Connecticut, with more than 135,000 residents and thousands of additional commuters.
Like many municipalities across the country, we are in a period of dramatic change. That is why we support a candidate who has consistently demonstrated an ability to manage change.
Our police department is determined to meet the ongoing challenges facing law enforcement by doing our part to bring people together in Stamford, where the growing population is increasingly diverse.
Given the evolving social climate, our department needs a mayor who understands how to manage and support people. In the upcoming election, Valentine is the only candidate who is as focused as the SPA on seeking objective, fair, and nonpolitical solutions.
He is unaffiliated from the political party system and isn’t seeking to be mayor as a steppingstone on a career path for higher office. He has already achieved a remarkable record of success, and the people of Stamford are fortunate to have someone with diverse talents willing to serve.
Besides playing for and managing several professional baseball organizations, Valentine served as a players’ representative and understands the nuances of contract negotiations for organized labor. For the last eight years, he has been a director at Sacred Heart University, where he has helped transform the athletic department into a respected Div. I program.
Bobby Valentine grew up in Stamford, attended public school in Stamford, started and managed businesses in Stamford, has contributed to countless non-profit organizations and youth leagues, and has demonstrated for decades that he is a champion for positive change in Stamford.
