Eagles soar in concert at Greenwich Town Party

- By Tyler Sizemore

GREENWICH — Classic rock band the Eagles rocked the house Sunday night as the closing band at the annual Greenwich Town Party at at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

Led by Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Vince Gill, along with Deacon Frey, son of the late Eagles founder Glenn Frey, the band opened with “Take It Easy” to a cheering crowd.

The night-time performance closed out many hours of music at the soggy daylong festival, which was soaked by steady rainfall during the day. The skies had cleared by that time, but the field was muddy and many in the crowd were soaked to the skin and looked as if they had jumped into the nearby harbor.

The Greenwich Town Party returned in full force in 2021, after it was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 and delayed this year from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.

The rainy and damp weather did not stop the performers from taking the stage. Other headliners included Zac Brown Band and the Preservation Jazz Band as well as country singer-songwriter Caroline Jones, who grew up in Greenwich.

The concert kicked off with “God Bless America” performed by Grace DeLoe and the National Anthem sung by Sgt. Joseph Colavito of the Connecticut Army National Guard, with the Byram Veterans Association acting as the color guard.

Concertgoers braved the rain and still enjoyed the music, food and games at the event, which was closing out the summer season this year instead of kicking it off.

Other performers who took the stage Sunday included Brunswick Music Improv, Robert Genna Sings, That's What She Sang, Roctopus, Paloma Skye, Happy Accidents, Rang-A-Boom and Charlie King & The Next Big Thing.

The Greenwich Town Party, a daylong music festival created by a private group, is a 10-year tradition in town.
