Police: One injured in shootout in Stamford’s West Side

- By Pat Tomlinson

STAMFORD — A 33year-old city man was shot in the back during a shootout in the West Side Sunday night, according to police.

Capt. Richard Conklin said police learned of the shooting after the man checked himself into the emergency room at Stamford Hospital around 9 p.m. Sunday.

The man suffered a “nonlife-threatening” gunshot wound to his upper back, Conklin said.

The shooting happened on Rose Park Avenue earlier in the evening, according to Conklin.

Based on the “numerous” shell casings found at the scene, Conklin said detectives believe there was a shootout between at least two gunmen using semiautomatic pistols.

Conklin did not say whether the man shot is believed to have been involved in the shootout.

“We don’t know yet what led to the dispute and the shots being fired, but we are canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage,” Conklin said Monday.

Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to contact the Stamford Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at 203-977-4417.
