Antonio “Tony” Smeriglio, a Stamford resident passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the age of 74. Born in Rose, Italy on January 2, 1947, he was the son of the late Michael and Josephine (Pirri) Smeriglio.

Tony graduated from Stamford High School Class of 1966. After high school, he served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army. Tony was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He proudly served in the Army from 1967-1970, where he obtained the rank of Corporal SP4. During his time in the service, Tony worked as a lithograph­ic pressman in Germany. Upon his return to the U.S., he continued to work as a pressman for 10 years before becoming employed by the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for 35 years. Throughout his life, Tony remained an active member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He recently received a Certificat­e of Recognitio­n by Senator Richard Blumenthal for his extraordin­ary dedication in serving Connecticu­t Veterans.

An avid photograph­er, Tony took pride in photograph­ing many family gatherings, as well as numerous parades, weddings and other events. Each year he looked forward to organizing and making t-shirts for the annual Smeriglio Picnic that is held at Cove Island Park. He was a devoted New York Yankee fan.

Tony is survived by his brothers, Mario Smeriglio, Louis (Jean) Smeriglio, and sister, Yolanda Smeriglio, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, and his longtime friend Ginny Moreno. He is predecease­d by his siblings Frank Smeriglio, Joseph Smeriglio, Ida Sena and Concetta Morabito.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clements Church, 535 Fairfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT. Face coverings are required for all attending.
