Martin Ginsberg

Dr. Martin Ginsberg, retired dentist and longtime Stamford resident, died September 17, 2021, in Chapel Hill, NC, of natural causes. He was born June 12, 1921, son of Mary and Aaron Ginsberg of Brooklyn. A 100th birthday party had been celebrated June 12, 2021.

In life, Dr. Ginsberg was open-minded, inquisitive, informed and funny. He had a passion for international travel and a deep love of classical music. He was interested in people, their stories and was always eager to help. He displayed a tremendous vitality his entire life.

Martin Ginsberg graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1939 and received a pharmacy degree from St. John’s University in 1943. That same year he entered military service. Hearing that there was a shortage of dentists, he applied to the the University of Oregon and in 1946, he was awarded a DDM, with honors, from their School of Dentistry.

That same year he opened his first dental practice in New Haven, CT. Dr. Ginsberg returned to military service, the U.S. Air Force, in 1953 as a Captain, Deputy Base Dental Commander, Wheelus AFB in Tripoli, Libya. When discharged in 1955, he moved to Stamford and opened his dental office on Atlantic St. He was President of the Stamford Dental Society (1962-63) and involved in the decision to add fluoride to the Stamford water supply. Martin was attending dentist at both Stamford and St. Joseph’s Hospitals and advised J. M. Wright Technical School. He became a Fellow of the

Academy of General Dentistry in 1972.

Dr. Ginsberg became interested in jaw dysfunctions and that became the sole focus of his work. In 1977, he became the director of the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) clinic at Stamford Hospital and was recognized for his

work in this area by becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Cranio-Mandibular Disorders in 1989. He lectured as a clinician at various institutions including Tufts University and NYU.

Martin was married twice. His first wife was Lee Ginsberg (nee Rubin). They married June 30, 1944 and were married until her death from cancer in June, 1971. He married Janice Blickensderfer Eastlack on July 12, 1980. She predeceased him on June 3, 2000. He is survived by three children from his first marriage: Trina Weyeneth (John), Marcia Ginsberg (Tim Hadro) and Richard Ginsberg (Janet), four grandsons and three great-grandchildren. His longtime partner, Jewell Cornell survives him as well.

In his later years, Dr. Ginsberg relocated to North Carolina and was a volunteer with SCORE and an active member of the Carolina Meadows’ stock club.

A service will be held at Leo P. Gallagher’s Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., on Thursday, September 23, 2021

at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, burial will be at Temple Beth El cemetery, 350 Roxbury Rd., Stamford.
