Mary Vellozzi

Mary Vellozzi, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 7, 2021. Mary was born June 18, 1930 in Bronx, NY to the late Santina and Charles LoVoi, and grew up in Astoria, Queens. She met her true love, Ernest Vellozzi, in 1956, and was engaged six months later. Married in 1957, they shared 58 years together before his passing.

Mary and Ernie moved many times across the country for corporate relocations, but considered New Canaan their home. After Ernie’s corporate retirement, they would own several successful businesses in Greenwich and Stamford. Mary was always ready for a good game of cards and crocheted blankets for everyone. She was at her happiest when cooking for and entertaining family and friends.

Mary is survived by her children, Lisa (Ivan) Saxonmeyer, Gina Smeriglio, and Chris (Debby) Vellozzi. Her much cherished grandchildren, Matthew Saxonmeyer, Mandee (Shane) Dobrosky, Jacob and Lucas Vellozzi.

Thank you to the wonderful caregivers at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, Bridgeport, who cared for mom in her last two years. There were no calling hours and burial will be private.
