STAMFORD — State police said an tow operator pulled a man from a burning vehicle on an interstate earlier this month, saving his life.

After asking for the public’s help identifying him, state police said Tuesday they have learned the identity of the tow operator. His name has not been released publicly.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday, Sept. 4 on Interstate 95 near Exit 9, according to state police.

The car, a 2004 Jeep, was traveling north in the left lane when it “swerved to the right, hopped the curb and struck a tree in the wood line of the right shoulder,” the accident summary from the incident states.

“The operator was trapped inside until the tow truck operator removed the man and saved his life,” state police said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

The driver, a 34-year-old, was given a verbal warning for driving without a license and failing to drive in the proper lane. He was taken to Stamford Hospital by Stamford EMS with non-life-threatening injures, according to the report.
