Police investigate Monday gunshots on city’s West Side

STAMFORD — Police are investigating reports of multiple gunshots fired in a busy area of the city’s West Side on Monday morning.

Capt. Richard Conklin said police received multiple reports of gunshots being fired near the corner of Richmond Hill Avenue and Mission Street at 8:05 a.m.

No one is believed to have been injured, Conklin said.

Investigators did recover “numerous” gun shell casings from the scene, however, according to Conklin. He did not specify how many casings were recovered.

Conklin called the incident “a very concerning and troubling situation” based on the timing and location of the gunshots.

“You’ve got kids outside waiting on corners and walking to bus stops. You’ve got people moving around and getting ready to go to work at that point. So, there’s a lot of pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic in the community at that time of the morning. It’s a troubling recipe, so to speak,” Conklin said.

Conklin said investigators have begun collecting security footage from the area in an attempt to identify the shooter or shooters.
