Utility union backs Valentine

-

To the editor,

Utility Workers Union of America Local 384 is supporting Bobby Valentine for mayor of Stamford in the Nov. 2 election.

Valentine is setting aside partisan politics and running unaffiliated from any party. After a long, successful career in professional baseball and living all over the world, he is not interested in pursuing a political career. His only goal is to help Stamford.

We think it is admirable. Many people get involved in politics for selfish reasons. Valentine is doing it for his town. The people of Stamford know that, no matter where he has lived, he always came home to lend a hand.

There is so much politics in politics. People have been turned off by the political process. You hope that something will change, that politicians will work for people and forget their party.

This is a glimmer of hope.

If anybody could be that person who changes things in Stamford, it’s Bobby Valentine.

Ed Reppucci of Stamford is president of UWUA Local 384. Members of Local 384 maintain water pipes, pumping stations and filtering plant for the local water company in Stamford, Darien in Greenwich. UWUA is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO, with 50,000 members who work in the electric, gas, steam, water and nuclear industries nationwide.
