Bridgeport teen arrested on gun, drug charges in Stamford
STAMFORD — A 19year-old Bridgeport man is facing multiple gun and drug charges after city police noticed him driving around with what turned out to be a fake paper license plate.
Kevin Conley Jr. was arrested by police Friday evening and charged with possession of a pistol without a permit, possession of an illegal highcapacity magazine, possession of weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, operating a drug factory and multiple motor vehicle violations.
Officer Timothy Speer was patrolling the South End, near the corner of Atlantic Street and Lipton Place, around 5 p.m. Saturday when he saw a man later identified as Conley driving a car bearing what appeared to be a temporary Texas license plate, Capt. Richard Conklin said.
Conklin said Speer pulled Conley over and issued him multiple motor vehicle violations.
During the stop, however, police located a loaded semi-automatic handgun concealed beneath Conley’s seat, as well as various other rounds belonging to different guns and eight grams of crack cocaine packaged individually, Conklin said.
Conley was held on $100,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned on Oct. 15.
In the wake of Conley’s arrest, Conklin congratulated Speer, who was involved in an arrest of an at-large murder suspect late last month, for his continued “proactive police work.”
“This is the second very good arrest he has made in a couple of weeks. Here is a young officer who is obviously keeping his eyes open out there,” Conklin said.
