Ex-superintendent recalls Valentine as ‘informal adviser’
To the editor,
I am writing to endorse Bobby Valentine as the mayor of Stamford.
During my tenure as superintendent of schools, Bobby was an informal adviser to me in a number of capacities. His knowledge, concern and passion for the school system will be a tremendous asset to the city of Stamford as we move forward.
I observed Bobby a number of times speaking with students and parents at various school functions. He knew many of them by name, and asked them questions not only about their athletic performance but also about their academic work and success within the schools. He was and is a mentor to our students. Simply talk to the parents of our schools and you will hear many inspiring stories which are not widely known.
Bobby has always been a generous supporter of our schools. In 2002, when our school district faced a financial crisis and needed to raise money with our own foundation, Bobby was the master of ceremonies at a school function which raised tens of thousands of dollars. He did this on many occasions.
Bobby was always available to me to offer advice on many of the issues I faced. When the district was struggling to find an alternative to a third high school, Bobby’s experience with Rippowam was invaluable to me in understanding the complexity of this decision. This led to the eventual establishment of A.I.T.E., which is one of our success stories.
Bobby has a history, love and passion for Stamford that is immeasurable. This is evident to everyone who meets him.
I endorse Bobby for mayor because he has a passion for the city, a vivid and active interest in the education of our young people and the ability to get things done.
