Stamford man charged with gun, drug possession

- By Pat Tomlinson

STAMFORD — A city man under investigation in connection to a March shooting on Stamford’s West Side was arrested on a gun and drug charge Saturday, according to police.

Capt. Richard Conklin said Ricardo Georges, 32, was arrested Saturday afternoon as a part of an ongoing investigation into a shootout between two cars near the intersection of Richmond Hill Avenue and Ann Street on March 14 that left a 72-year-old man with a non-life-threatening shoulder injury.

Conklin said Georges was identified as a person of interest in the shootout after a white Honda Civic seen leaving the crime scene was connected to him.

On Saturday, police were told that Georges was armed with a weapon and would be leaving a gym on Sixth Street around 11:30 a.m., Conklin said.

Police units, including members of the Strategic Response Team, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the Narcotics and Organized Crime unit, waited until Georges was seen leaving the gym and took him into custody without incident, Conklin said.

Conklin said police found Georges in possession of a loaded .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun and five packets of fentanyl.

Georges, who has been convicted of multiple drug sale felony charges dating back to 2014, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition and possession of narcotics.

He is being held in lieu of $500,000 bond after he was arraigned Monday. His next court date is scheduled for May 23.

While Conklin said police continue to investigate Georges for his suspected connection to the March 14 shooting, he has not been charged in the case.

In late March, police arrested 22-year-old Tyrik McRae of Bridgeport on charges of criminal attempt at first-degree assault, possession of a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment and possession of weapons in a motor vehicle for his involvement in the midday assault.

That shooting, which happened around 3 p.m., was the first of two shootings on March 14.

The second shooting that day happened around 7:45 p.m. in the area of Rose Park Avenue near the intersection of West Main Street, just around the corner from the first shooting.

Investigators who were just around the corner still investigating the earlier shooting responded to the scene where they found a 26-year-old person with a gunshot wound to the face and still conscious, according to police.

Police said at the time that “preliminary but unconfirmed indications” suggest the two shootings could have been related.

No arrests have been made in the second shooting as of Monday.

Anyone with information regarding either shooting is asked to call the Major Crime Unit at 203-977-4417.

Witnesses or those with information can also contact the Major Crimes Unit by sending an anonymous text tip via their cell phone by texting keyword “STAMFORDPD” and their message/tip to 847411.
