-

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our father Anthony Joseph Marciano Jr. who died peacefully at his home on Friday, May 20th, 2022 after a short illness at the age of 92. Tony, as he was known by most, was born on August 12, 1929 in Stamford, CT, the son of the late Anthony and Anna (Viggiano) Marciano. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Theresa Marciano, brothers Frank and Robert Marciano, and sister Elizabeth Plank. In addition, he was predeceased by his in-laws, James and Mary Halton, as well as sister-in-law and brother-inlaw Ann and Al Dahm with whom he was very close during their lifetimes.

Tony was born, raised and lived the majority of his life in Stamford, CT. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1948 and married the love of his life the former Theresa Halton on December 26, 1950, and began a loving partnership that would be eternal. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. After briefly working at Conde Nast in Stamford he began a long and successful career in the automobile industry. Initially hired as salesman at Eastman Motors in Stamford, he was promoted to President at the young age of 26. Subsequently he purchased the dealership which he ran successfully with his partners until 1982. Following Eastman Motors, Tony was the President and General Manager of BMW of Darien until his retirement in 1992. As a devout Roman Catholic, Tony’s faith was central to his life and his legacy. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Bridget’s of Ireland Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, CT, where he was an usher, lector, Eucharistic Minister and Trustee of the church for many years. As such, he was an essential contributor to the formation of the church and school in the 1960’s, and a relentless fundraiser and major force behind the rebuilding of the chapel and the construction of St. John Fisher Seminary.

Tony is survived by a large and loving family: His son Robert, along with his children, Kristen (Scott) Swalling and Matthew Marciano, his daughter Sharon Pia, along with her children Charles (Kelly) Pia and Brittany (Stanley) Belizor, his daughter Bonnie along with her children Michael (Tiffany) DeLeo, Alexander (Wendy) DeLuca and Kyle DeLuca, his son Anthony, III (Shannon) along with their children Anthony IV, Katherine and Theresa Marciano, and his daughter Dania (Porter III) McKinnon along with their children Porter IV, Carson and Reese McKinnon. Tony will be remembered for his unique personality. He was tough and demanding but had the kindest heart. People gravitated to him. He could talk to a stranger and know their life story in 15 minutes. He was honest and trustworthy. Most of all, he will be remembered for being a loving and devoted father who took the most pleasure in being with his children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He lived life on his own terms and with no regrets.

Visitation hours will be held on Thursday May, 26th from 4-8 at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902, who are handling the arrangements.
