Christine “Tina” Poulos

Christine (Tina) Poulos passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on September 25, 2022. She was born on April 18, 1928 in the Jamaica Plain neighborho­od of Boston, Massachuse­tts to Demetra and Constantin­e Mirageas. Her father passed away while Christine was young and she and her brother were raised by her mother and stepfather, John Athanas.

After graduating from Katharine Gibbs Secretaria­l School, she worked as a medical secretary. Christine was a volunteer catechist at the Annunciati­on Orthodox Cathedral in Boston where she met and fell in love with a young seminary student, George Poulos, and later married him in 1948 before he was ordained a Greek Orthodox priest. The couple became close with the priest of the Boston Cathedral, who later became Archbishop Iakovos of North and South America, and the three went on to share a lifelong friendship and dedication to the Church.

Fr. George and Christine spent eight happy years in Norwich, their first parish. In 1956, Father George was assigned to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels in Stamford, Connecticu­t, and Christine played an integral role as Presbytera and an active member of the Philoptoch­os Society, contributi­ng to the developmen­t and growth of the community.

Christine was a dedicated wife, devoted mother, and extraordin­ary homemaker. She was truly a gourmet cook and enjoyed entertaini­ng her family and guests. Christine always shared her love of Greek culture, was an expert in Greek traditions and especially enjoyed family birthday celebratio­ns. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was predecease­d earlier in February 2022 by her husband of over 74 years, Rev. George Poulos, and her brother George Mirageas.

Christine is survived by her loving children, Peter Poulos and his wife, Argery, of Stamford; Dean Poulos and his wife, Dorie, of Stamford; John Poulos of Liverpool, New York; Michael Poulos and his wife, Pamela, of Stamford; and Paul Poulos and his wife, Georgia, of Stamford. She is also survived by her six cherished grandchild­ren, Cristina (husband Benjamin), Mary (husband John), George (fiancée Jenna), Dean (wife Potoula), Matthew, Peter, and her great grandchild, Peter Benjamin, sister-inlaw Patricia Mirageas of Boston, many nephews and cousins.

The Poulos family would like to thank Father Harry Pappas and Father Evan Evangelidi­s for their caring support and prayers.

Public visitation will be held at Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford, CT 06905 on Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 5:00 PM. to 8:00 PM, with a Trisagion Service to be held at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Church on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM. A funeral procession will follow the service to Woodland Cemetery, 66 Woodland Place, Stamford, CT and a Makaria catered luncheon, in memory of Christine, will follow the interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Christine’s memory to the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, the Father George Poulos Ionian Village Scholarshi­p Fund (c/o Archangels Church), or Annunciati­on Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT 06905.
