Iris M. Bell December 12, 2022
Iris M. Bell was born in Newark, NJ on March 28, 1932, and died on December 12, 2022, at the self-proclaimed age of 25. Daughter of Jessie and Abe Melter, “younger” sister of Bea Rosenbloom who was born a couple of years later, mother of Marc Weissman (Regina), Ken Weissman (Honey), Laura Roman (Dave), grandmother of Becca Weissman, Jesse Weissman, Nicole Roman, Danielle Roman, Andrea Roman. Iris majored in political science at Cornell University, where she met Peter Weissman, the father of her three children. Iris was a loving mother, a full-time real estate broker serving on the Stamford Board of Realtors and CT MLS Board, and a part-time clown named Binky. Binky the Clown volunteered at the Stamford Hospital, appeared in local parades, and loved attending her grandchildren’s birthday parties for face painting and balloon animals! Iris was very intelligent (Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle… in ink), witty (she was known for sending lottery tickets with silly poems for birthday presents), and a great knitter (everyone she loved had handmade “slippies” and the grandchildren had lots of sweaters). She loved going to the theater and out to dinner with her girlfriends. Unfortunately, dementia took over her later life and she spent her last years at an assisted living facility in Middletown, where her famous smile will long be remembered. A memorial service will be held at Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek, Chester, CT, on December 28 at 11:00am, followed by Shiva at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
