STAMFORD — A Bridgeport man pleaded guilty Thursday to stabbing a man in the face and seriously injuring him at a Norwalk apartment in 2019.

Abdul Haqq, 56, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault during a hearing at the state Superior Court in Stamford Thursday as a part of a deal with prosecutors.

Under the agreement, Haqq will spend four years in prison followed by three years of special parole.

According to State’s Attorney Paul Ferencek, Haqq seriously injured a Norwalk man when he stabbed him three times — including in the head — during a dispute at a Fair Street apartment complex.

Haqq, who also goes by the name of Cliff Hennigan, showed up uninvited to the apartment of a woman he had dated around 1 a.m. on Dec. 21, 2019, police said.

When Haqq refused to leave the apartment, the woman called a male neighbor to help get him to leave, police said at the time.

The two men started fighting, according to police. During the fight, Haqq used a kitchen knife to stab the other man three times, twice in the head and once through the left arm, Sherry said.

The neighbor tried to walk away, but collapsed outside from blood loss, police said.

The first arriving officers treated the neighbor’s wounds as paramedics rushed to the scene.

He was transported to Norwalk Hospital in stable condition and was later discharged.

Police said Haqq fled the scene, but detectives were able to track him to a nearby apartment by following a trail of blood. He was charged with first-degree assault.

Haqq is scheduled to be sentenced on March 16.
