Westport spa expanding to New Canaan

NEW CANAAN — Six years after the opening of New Beauty and Wellness in Westport, the spa is expanding its services to New Canaan with a second location.

“Get ready for a state of the art, luxury spa in downtown New Canaan,” Co-owner Paul Dowicz said about the 128 Main Street spot.

Formerly a New Balance store, Dowicz said he and his co-owners Michele Dowics and Edward Schaufler chose this property because of its location and size. Schaufler also lives there.

“It’s close enough where we can manage it properly but far enough where it’s not going to affect our business,” Dowicz said.

The exact date is not yet determined, but Dowicz said they are planning to open at the end of June.

The New Canaan facility will be slightly smaller than Westport’s almost 4,000 square-foot location, but will offer all the same services, including facials, Botox, massages, laser treatments and hair removal. Like in Westport, the upstairs will be for spa treatments, while downstairs will be for medical treatments.

He said the Westport facility’s clientele expands multiple communities, but many also come from New Canaan, hence the new location.

Before deciding on New Canaan, Dowicz said they reviewed locations in Greenwich, Fairfield and into New York. However, Greenwich didn’t have a proper size facility that they needed and Fairfield was too close to Westport.

“We look forward to being part of the community,” he said about New Canaan.

Dowicz said they have loved being in Westport for the last six years.

“We’ve grown probably 30 percent in the last two years,” Dowicz said.

He said after the COVID-19 pandemic, it seemed people wanted to relax in spas.

Before that, when the business was just starting out, Dowicz said they took time and effort to build their team of professionals, and a lot of their original team has stayed.

“We’ve built a great environment both to work in and for clients,” he said.

Before opening New Beauty and Wellness, Dowicz was in the finance industry, but wanted to enter the spa business because it was growing. So, he, his wife and longtime friend Schaufler decided to open their own spa in Westport, as Schaufler was familiar with the area.

Dowicz said there are not immediate plans to continue expanding New Beauty and Wellness, as they’re focusing on the New Canaan facility, but more can come in the future.
