Mohegan Sun announces new restaurant

- By Layla Schlack

A new restaurant has been announced for Mohegan Sun’s Casino of the Earth. The Shed will open across from Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana in spring 2024, according to a Dec. 14 news release.

Last week, Mohegan Sun announced it was closing the Earth food court, which was home to options like The Original SoupMan and Southside, to prepare for this new concept.

John Tunney III, the restaurateur behind The Shed, also owns Ballo Italian Restaurant, which will be the new eatery’s nextdoor neighbor inside Mohegan Sun.

The Shed’s food is described in the release as “American comfort food (including items that are gluten-free, vegetarian, or can be easily modified to be vegan).” That includes items like mac and cheese and chicken and waffles, as well as salads and bowls. The release names some brunch items that will be served, like arugula and roasted tomato benedict, in addition to dinner items.

Four other locations of The Shed are on Long Island, and Tunney also owns Long Island restaurants The Farm Italy and

Besito Mexican.

When The Shed opens, it will be Mohegan Sun’s 39th dining option. These range from quick options like Chick-Fil-A and Dunkin’, to sports books with their own menus, to higher end offerings like Ballo.

Jan. 25-28 will mark the 20th anniversary of Mohegan Sun’s annual Sun Wine & Food Fest. Guests will include Martha Stewart, Todd English, Michael

Symon, Aarón Sanchez and Robert Irvine. “Breaking Bad” stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are slated to host an event for Dos Hombres Mezcal, which they founded in 2019.
