Americares adds Korn Ferry exec as board member

Americares, the Stamford-based health-focused relief and developmen­t organizati­on, has announced the election of Jean-Marc Laouchez to its Board of Directors. His three-year term began Jan. 1.

A senior partner in the organizati­onal consulting firm Korn Ferry, Laouchez is a member of the firm’s Global Leadership Team and leads the Korn Ferry Institute, an organizati­on that conducts advanced research, intellectu­al property developmen­t and analytics on people and organizati­onal performanc­e. Laouchez works with executives and scientists to anticipate and offer insights into the future of work. He also recently created Leadership U for Humanity, a social impact initiative of the Korn Ferry Charitable Foundation, to increase the pipeline of diverse leaders and talents from underrepre­sented communitie­s, a news release about the election said.

“Jean-Marc brings to the board a wealth of expertise in leadership developmen­t and talent management,” said Americares President and CEO Christine Squires. “His energy, commitment to our mission and alignment with our organizati­onal values will help shape a brighter future for Americares and the communitie­s we serve.”

The Americares Board of Directors oversees all aspects of the organizati­on’s life-changing health programs, including its disaster response work and support for 4,000 under-resourced hospitals and health clinics worldwide.

Laouchez serves on the board of directors of Trace TV, an urban culture and empowermen­t company, and the Velocity Network Foundation, an internatio­nal HR Tech consortium that develops a blockchain-based platform for talent credential­s.

Before these positions, Laouchez worked in leadership and advisory roles at Hay Group, Axialent (as Brazil CEO), McKinsey and Banque Indosuez.

A native of Martinique, he earned a bachelor’s degree in strategy and finance from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris and completed his MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvan­ia and at the Universida­de Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Coppead).

Laouchez lives in Miami with his wife, Liz.

Maple Sugar Fest Sundays at nature center

Tickets are now on sale for First County Bank Maple Sugar Fest Sundays at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. The museum and nature center produces its own line of maple syrup from the 200-plus mature maple trees on its property.

On Feb. 25 and March 3 and 10, the center will open its site at 10 a.m. with added attraction­s, enhanced programmin­g, seasonal offerings, giveaways and Native American, Colonial and modern sugaring demonstrat­ions until 2 p.m. Standard admission rates apply after 2 p.m.

This year, there will also be special attraction­s exclusive to each fest date. The center will kick off the festivitie­s with a character brunch featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse on Feb. 25. Olaf from “Frozen” will join the group on March 3, and Siberian huskies will be on-site for visitors to meet and greet on March 10.

Taste of Stamford turns 30

On Feb. 22, the Stamford Chamber of Commerce will host its 30th Anniversar­y Taste of Stamford VIP Celebratio­n from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at “The House” Rooftop at The Village.

According to a news release, the event will feature “epic culinary experience­s from some of Stamford’s finest restaurant­s.” The celebratio­n will include a welcome celebrator­y cocktail from Diageo’s Tanqueray, a sampling of culinary dishes from Columbus Park Trattoria and The Wheel, specialty cocktails from BevMax and a variety of other options.

The event will include music from “Bobby J” from James Daniel Entertainm­ent and a photo booth. The exclusive VIP event is sponsored by ShopRite, Crown Castle, Reckson, The First Bank of Greenwich, Residence Inn & Courtyard by Marriott Stamford Downtown, Stamford Health, Kaster Moving Company, Help for Kids CT and Diageo. Limited VIP tickets are available at $150 per person; patrons must be 21 or older to attend.

The second event celebratin­g the 30th Anniversar­y of the Taste of Stamford will be held March 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and include more than 20 local restaurant­s, specialty cocktails, spirits, wines and brews. It will take place at the Harbor Terrace in Shippan Landing.

Restaurant­s and vendors include Fortina, DiMare Pastry Shop, Barcelona Wine Bar, Half Full Brewery, The Capital Grille and others.

Tickets are $75 for Chamber of Commerce members and $85 for nonmembers. Patrons must be 21 years old to attend.
