Man arrested with crack, PCP and illegal firearm, cops say
STAMFORD — A city man has been arrested and charged with a litany of offenses after being stopped in his vehicle and found with illegal narcotics and a stolen firearm, officials say.
In a release on Wednesday, Stamford Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin said Jamaine Jones, 38, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition, theft of a firearm, altering identification marks on a firearm, illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine, weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of hallucinogens, possession of hallucinogen with intent to sell, operating a drug factory and violation of a protective order.
Conklin said police were investigating Jones, also known as “Main Source,” for his potential connection to the sale of PCP and crack cocaine in Stamford. Last Friday, he said, police stopped Jones in the area of Vine Road and Newfield Avenue while he was driving the vehicle they suspect him of using for narcotics sales.
On him, Conklin said, police found 11 bags of crack cocaine, several pieces of loose crack cocaine and $2,334. In his vehicle, he said, were three jars containing mint leaves soaked in PCP, packaging materials and a scale.
Also found was a Berretta 9mm handgun with a high-capacity magazine with some of the serial numbers scratched out, Conklin said. The one serial number not damaged was used to identify the gun as having been stolen from South Carolina in 2020, he said.
“Jones took ownership of all the narcotics located along with the firearm,” he said. “Jones, who is a convicted felon, has a lengthy history which includes arrests and convictions for robbery, assault, sale of narcotics, threatening and criminal possession of a firearm.”
Conklin said Jones is being held on $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23.
