According to a release from the Nature Center “this will be North America’s only chance to witness a total solar eclipse within the next 20 years, with Connecticut the closest it will ever be to the path of totality within many of our lifetimes.”

Stamford will experience nearly 92 percent totality at 3:26 p.m., the release states, at which time the sun will resemble the slightest crescent moon. Those at the Nature Center will measure the drop in temperature from the eclipse’s start to its point of greatest totality. A complete list of programs and details will be available as the event approaches. Viewing glasses are available for reservation by Director’s Circle Members only.

Registration is not required and the program is free.

Stamford native serving Navy in helicopter squadron

Petty Officer 2nd Class Lucio Lionetti, a native of Stamford, serves the U.S. Navy assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 49.

According to a statement from the Navy Office of Community Outreach, Lionetti said the “skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Stamford.

“I worked in construction and that taught me a lot about keeping my head down and keeping a goal in sight,” said Lionetti in the release. “Sometimes it can feel like what you are doing in the Navy doesn’t really have a big purpose, but a lot of little things go into building something great. It is an exceptional feeling to be a part of the Navy.” Lionetti joined the Navy a little over four years ago. Today, he serves as a naval aircrewman.
