STAMFORD NEWS BRIEFS
Pickleball for a purpose
Pickleball America will host the premiere “Pickle for a Purpose” Tournament on May 18 from noon to 5 p.m. at its indoor pickleball venue, 140 Atlantic St., Stamford. The event benefits Future 5, which for 14 years has helped more than 950 under-resourced Stamford students achieve their academic, career, and life goals. Currently, 160 students are waitlisted to join the program.
“We are very excited to partner with Pickleball America for this spring fundraiser to help drive Future 5 forward. It will allow us to expand services, support more students, and meet the needs of our growing population,” said Amanda Dubois-Mwake, Future 5 executive director, in a news release. “Pickle for a Purpose will combine an afternoon of fun with the hope of creating more connections for increased numbers of high schoolers and college students in the future.”
“Pickle for a Purpose” is a round robin tournament. All level players are welcome. The event also includes an exhibition match, a clinic for beginners, lunch and a swag bag and an after-party.
Registration is $90 per person before March 31; $110 per person after April 1.
New exhibit at museum
On March 7, Stamford Museum & Nature Center opened its newest exhibition, “Pat Musick: Our Fragile Home.” Guests included artist Pat Musick, members of her family from around the nation, and the creative forces behind the award-winning documentary, “The Artist & The Astronaut” — writer/director Bill Muench and composer Todd Hobin. The film, which premiered in Connecticut at the museum last year, showcases the life of Musick, and her late husband, astronaut Jerry Carr. Now on view through May 27, the exhibition features 48 pieces of the 98-year-old artist’s work, spanning more than three decades.
The Stamford Museum & Nature Center Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Gallery viewing is always free to SM&NC members and included in the price of daily admission for visitors. Stamford Museum & Nature Center’s Bendel Mansion & Galleries are located at 39 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford. For more information, call 203-977-6521 or visit stamfordmuseum.org.
