If you’re a fan of the Great British Bake Off — the soothing and stunning confection competition whose finale garnered 14.8 million viewers — ABC is hoping you’ll be sweet on the fourth season of The Great American Baking Show. Star sat down with Brooklyn-based contestant Jason Arthur (@bakesbyjason) to get the scoop!
How is the American version different than GBBO?
It basically follows the same format — it’s even filmed in a tent in the English countryside — but this season our bakes have a Christmassy theme.
How do you prepare for the show?
You spend an intense few weeks at home in your kitchen developing recipes and practicing, practicing, practicing!
Is judge Paul Hollywood as intimidating as he sounds?
He is! It’s those piercing blue eyes that throw your off your guard! But once you get past that, he’s really a nice guy.
Did you make friends with the other bakers?
The camaraderie you see on the show is very real. We all became fast friends right away and have already started talking about a reunion!
What’s next for you?
I’m thinking about going to pastry school to get trained professionally and maybe open a pastry shop of my own!
