FOR Katie Holmes, there’s no time quite as magical as Christmas. “The holiday season means so much because it’s all about family and making sure that the people that you love know how much you care for them,” she said last year. “We have so many traditions in our house. We play a lot of board games and we hang out as a family, and that’s so special.” But this year, things will be very different. Katie’s ex Tom Cruise is pushing hard to reunite with their daughter, Suri, 12, over Christmas — and Katie isn’t happy, a source tells Star. “Katie’s absolutely panicking over the fact that she may lose Suri for the holidays,” says the source, adding that the Dawson’s Creek alum, 39, is stunned that Tom, 56, has chosen to invoke his reported 10-dayper-month visitation rights now. “Tom’s been completely absent from Suri’s life for years. She has no idea why he’s walking back in now — especially since he knows how important Christmas is to Katie.”
A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE While Katie’s rep denies our story, our source says Tom has plans to spend the holidays with Suri and insists that the Mission: Impossible star is pulling out all the stops. “He always sends Suri a truckload of expensive Christmas gifts. But this year he wants the biggest surprise of all to be himself,” dishes the source, adding that Tom — who hasn’t been photographed publicly with Suri since 2013 — is planning to rent a luxe penthouse in NYC to celebrate. “Katie had already arranged to take Suri back to her parents’ place in Ohio for Christmas, so it’s caused a huge uproar among her Toledo relatives.” But Katie can’t bring herself to stop him, since she knows it would mean so much to Suri after missing her daddy for so long.
However, Tom’s intentions may not be so pure. “The buzz is that the Church of Scientology is pushing for this reunion,” warns an insider close to the actor, explaining that the controversial religion’s image has taken a beating since Katie left Tom in 2012, reportedly to protect Suri from the cultlike religion. “They don’t want to force them back into Scientology. It’s more like they’d like Katie and Suri to be seen as passively coexisting with the church, and maybe then potential followers would be less suspicious.” As a result, “Tom has been instructed to give Suri the best Christmas ever,” says the insider, adding that the Top Gun star has promised to make that happen. While the tween is sure to have the time of her life with her dad, “you have to feel for Katie,” notes the source. “It obviously hurts to be ripped away from your daughter, but it’s even worse during this time of year.”
