WHAT is Duchess Meghan getting for Christmas? A royally harsh scolding from Queen Elizabeth! Palace insiders are spilling that when the matriarch heard about drama between Meghan and her sisterin-law, Duchess Kate, she summoned the new bride to give her a lecture on bulldozing royal family traditions — and Prince Harry’s heart! “It was a real Buckingham bollocking. You don’t ever want to be summoned to the queen’s private reception,” a palace insider dishes. “The queen’s private secretary set up a meeting between Her Majesty and the duchess. The queen told Meghan that she’s ‘destroyed Harry’ by coming between him and Prince William and Kate, who he adores. No one at the palace has seen the queen this incensed before.”
STAFF INFECTION All of this happened in the wake of reports that Kate and Meghan had a falling out after Meghan, 37, “reprimanded” one of Kate’s staffers ahead of her and Harry’s wedding — and that Kate told her, “That’s unacceptable; they’re my staff and I speak to them.” In a rare statement, the royal family claimed the incident “never happened,” but had no comment on reports Kate was in tears at a bridesmaid dress fitting for her daughter, Charlotte, before the wedding. Then, adding fuel to the fire, Harry, 34, and Meghan announced they would be moving to Frogmore House ahead of their baby’s birth in the spring, instead of an apartment in Kensington Palace next door to Kate, 36, and William, 36. “It’s total chaos,” a royal insider says. “Everyone hoped the two princes’ families would live in harmony, but they’re only growing more distant now that Harry and Meghan are moving out.”
SOVEREIGN LAW All of this is making the 92-year-old monarch very unhappy, insiders say, which is what she told Harry’s wife in their private meeting. “Meghan was given a new set of rules, which included not upsetting Kate or William or any of their staff. Meghan was dumbfounded, to be sure, but she kept her head up high. She’s still an actress, you know.” And even though the queen was confident she got her message across, sources say she’s banking on more than stern words to keep Meghan in line. Meghan’s longtime personal assistant, Melissa Touabti, quit in early November, and sources say the queen has been instrumental in filling the position. “The plan is for Meghan’s new assistant to keep a close eye on her and encourage her to start playing by the rules.”
