THE BREAK­DOWN: This diet mim­ics the eat­ing habits of an­cient hunter-gath­er­ers and is based on the be­lief that the body can’t achieve peak per­for­mance and health when it’s run­ning on pro­cessed foods like Easy Cheese and Twinkies. In­stead, the Pa­leo fo­cuses on foods that would’ve ex­isted dur­ing cave­man times. The up­side: no calo­rie count­ing or food ra­tios to fol­low.

FOODS TO EAT: Lean pro­tein, seafood, veg­gies, fruits, most nuts, healthy fats.

WHAT TO AVOID: All pro­cessed foods in­clud­ing dairy, grains, peanuts, re­fined su­gar and flour.

HELP­FUL FOR: Low­er­ing the risk of is­sues like car­dio­vas­cu­lar dis­ease and di­a­betes while im­prov­ing mus­cle mass and body com­po­si­tion.
