Pierce Brosnan’s Son in Dire Straits:

A SHOCKING SIGHTING OF PIERCE BROSNAN’S ESTRANGED SON, CHRIS, HAS SPARKED NEW FEARS FOR HIS WELL-BEING

Chris Brosnan hits rock bottom in a series of shocking photos obtained by Star — find out why the GoldenEye actor refuses to help.

“Chris is in dire straits, physically and mentally” — a friend tells Star

IT was a warm and sunny afternoon in West London on May 17, but while most pedestrians strolled the streets in their light spring attire, Pierce Brosnan’s estranged son, Chris, emerged from his grubby council flat bundled in black. With his gaunt, pale complexion and skeletal frame visible beneath his baggy jacket, his shocking appearance immediately sparked speculation among friends that the onetime movie director, 46, who has a long history of arrests and drug abuse, has hit a desperate new low. “For a while there, it seemed like Chris had conquered his demons and was on the mend,” a family insider tells Star. “But from the look of things, he may have reverted to his toxic habits. He’s wasting away — and he could be seriously ill.”

A PROBLEMATIC PAST Despite his condition, it doesn’t appear Chris can lean on his father for aid. Pierce, 66, who still has a thriving career in Hollywood and is said to be worth $80 million, “could easily step in and help,” dishes the tipster. “But Chris needs more than money. He’s in dire straits, physically, emotionally and mentally.” It’s unlikely that Pierce will come to the rescue, given the 007 actor’s complicated relationship with Chris, whom he adopted along with daughter Charlotte in 1986 — six years after marrying their mom, Cassandra Harris. When Cassandra tragically succumbed to ovarian cancer in 1991, Chris was “utterly devastated,” self-destructive behaviors to cope with the loss. He served jail time on a drunk driving conviction in 1997 — a year after he paid a $1,500 fine for the same offense — and battled a drug addiction. He was banned from a London nightclub for brawling, and was hospitalized for an overdose-induced coma in 2002. When Chris was held by authorities on suspicion of heroin possession in June 2005, Pierce had had enough. After supporting his son for years and boosting his film career by landing him assistant director gigs on two of his James Bond films, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough, Pierce cut Chris off financially and severed all ties. “Christopher is still very lost — shockingly so,” Pierce painfully revealed in a 2005 interview, the last time he spoke of his son. “I know where he is, but he’s having a hard life. I busy living, or get busy dying.’”

DARK TIMES AHEAD After the estrangement, Chris did manage to land a few TV appearances and some film-crew work. But the death of his sister Charlotte in 2013, also from ovarian cancer, sent Chris into a downward spiral. “It was an unimaginable double blow, and it seems like he never recovered,” the insider laments, adding that Chris has probably not worked for years. “He spends his days out playing frisbee and smoking,” says the source. “Even worse, he could be hanging out with junkies.” And without his famous father or other family to turn to, Chris has more rough days ahead. “In the past, he was able to turn things around and get back on his feet,” the insider says. “But he’s fallen so far that he may not recover this time around.”
